Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi canceled a meeting with leaders of her party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), because government authorities exclude her longtime colleague Tin Oo, who is under house arrest, according to Burmese state-run newspapers.

The authorities had given permission for Suu Kyi, who is also under house arrest, to meet with NLD party leaders before her scheduled meeting with Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell on Wednesday, according to The New Light of Myanmar in a story published on Thursday.

Suu Kyi refused to attend the NLD leaders’ meeting without Tin Oo, who is a vice chairman of the party.

“What she wanted is that all NLD leaders should be involved in the meeting,” said Nyan Win, an NLD spokesman.

Meanwhile, ordinary Burmese—politicians, businessmen, schoolteachers, and others—were transfixed on the news about Suu Kyi’s meeting with a four-member US delegation visiting the country on a two-day information gathering mission, according to Rangoon residents.

Relations between the US and Burma are in the preliminary stages of direct contact between the two governments, which have not had normal relations for nearly 20 years.

US economic sanctions against Burma have been in force for more than 10 years. Both countries have expressed a willingness to resume negotiations designed to improve relations.

Journals, newspapers and broadcast media were allowed to report details about the US delegation’s visit and publish photographs of pro-democracy leader Suu Kyi and the members of the delegation.

Some Burmese journalists working for local journals and foreign news agencies were allowed to photograph Suu Kyi and the US delegation, but no questions were permitted.

A journalist in Rangoon said The Myanmar Times and Bi Weekly journal sold very well on Thursday because of the coverage and photographs of Suu Kyi.

“People also talked a lot about Suu Kyi in teashops and markets,” she said.

A government worker in Rangoon said, “I wanted to see and read the news. As soon as I heard there were photos of Suu Kyi published, I went and bought a newspaper.”

A schoolteacher in Rangoon said, “This is good news for us. But, I can’t believe it. We have to wait and see.”

Suu Kyi news was also carried on state-run media such as Myanmar Ahlin, and The Mirror, as well as state-run Television MRTV.

We can see how faithful and worthy of Daw Suu. If the military is allowing to meet the NLD learders, Mr. Tin Oo must be included, too. The NLD must be allowed to hold meetings without any restriction. All leaders must be allowed to participate. I agree with Saw Suu 100 percent.

Great news coverage, let's hope we get to visually see more of the lady. Where is the fool that caused her more house arrest now?Safely back in America.

This is junta's technique - divide-and-rule tactics, just as the British had colonised our country.

The junta has divided the armed groups: the KNU v DKBA, and Wa and Shan, for example.

They won't spare the NLD, the one and only party which is strongly opposing the generals. This time, they will let Daw Suu attend the meeting but next time they won't let U Tin Oo attend the meeting.

It was a good start by the junta to make further relations with the US and democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi.

The US delegation has to report details to President Obama about their recent visit to Burma. Since Burmese head of govenment General Thein Sein had met this delegation, it can not be worthless.

Politically it has meaning to keep relations with the present US administration for the devlopment of the country.

Anyway the result will come out. As for the junta, they should release U Tin Oo, an aged general who was also omce commander in chief of the Burma Army, so that junta will get more benefits and credibility from the international community.

Well, the rest of the CEC members of the NLD, are not as important and valuable as U Tin Oo.

Good move - Daw Suu. Your politics now focus on personal interest rather than in the party's interest, let alone the national interest. Keep it up.

Once again Daw Suu has shown her loyalty and spirit of camaraderie: a long held American tradition - never leave a buddy behind.

U Tin Oo deserved all as well for sharing her ideals and death situations - De-pe'-yin - and others.

Though trained to pull a trigger first he possessed all the trappings of a gentleman and a soldier, a rare beed of man, none found amongst Than Shwe's hordes today.

Moreover, it serves notice to that dumb person in Nay Pyi Daw that U Tin Oo has secured his place in history alongside Daw Suu unlike the monk murderer who has already booked his place in hell.

And U Tin Oo has many former comrades-in-arms still active among the ranks of Than Shwe's minions lest the military maniac forgets.

Hence, Daw Suu's people and U Tin Oo's comrades still in uniform certainly pose a real and present danger for those rats hiding in their tunnels at Nay Pyi Daw if they really know.

How she has withered appearance-wise under the treachery by SPDC persecution. Yet how clear and sharp still is her advocacy of "inclusiveness' and "thoughtfulness" on fellow unjust captives of SPDC persisted.

WIth one sincere statement, she has made:

1) The release of all political prisoners a "Must"
2) Inclusion of every citizen in the coming process as a goal SPDC must aim for.
3) Rekindle the hope among all citizenry for a better future.
4) Overlook the recent shameless SPDC persecution.

Despite all her past mis-steps, the SPDC would do well to heed her as a true medium for their own last chance political rehab.
